Lakeside Behavioral Health provides one-on-one therapy for adults with grief at our St. Louis office and through telehealth in Missouri and Illinois. Our licensed therapists use evidence-based approaches tailored to your specific needs and goals.
How Individual Therapy Treats Grief
Individual therapy for grief provides a private space to process loss at your own pace. Therapy is not about moving on or forgetting. It is about finding ways to carry your loss while re-engaging with life.
What therapy includes:
- CBT: address guilt, self-blame, and catastrophic thinking related to the loss
- Psychodynamic exploration of how loss connects to relational history and identity
- DBT: distress tolerance for intense grief waves
- No prescribed timeline: therapy moves at your pace
- Address co-occurring depression or anxiety within treatment
Signs Therapy May Be Right for Your Grief
Consider individual therapy if:
- Grief persists beyond what you expected or can manage
- You feel stuck, unable to accept the loss or re-engage with life
- Friends and family say ‘move on’ but that feels impossible or hurtful
- Co-occurring depression or anxiety has developed since the loss
- Individual therapy can be complemented with IOP group grief support
