Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation

What is TMS?

TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) is a noninvasive treatment that uses magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the brain. TMS is used for treatment-resistant Major Depressive Disorder often leading to complete remission from depression. Studies have shown TMS to be effective for patients with depression, regardless of how many medications have failed in the past.  Since there is no anesthesia, systemic side effects, or memory loss involved, patients can resume their daily routines immediately after TMS treatment.

How Does it Work?

At Lakeside Behavioral Health we exclusively utilize Brainsway Deep TMS technology. Our Brainsway Deep TMS machine has an H-coil that activates deeper and more widespread regions of the brain, achieving a 2.5-fold deeper electric field penetration at the same safe stimulation levels.  By doing so TMS at Lakeside can offer greater activation, more efficient treatment, more reliable targeting of the treatment site, and increased convenience for each patient!

Why TMS?

When people are considering TMS, it usually means they’ve tried other methods that have failed. Most have tried many different medications spanning their entire adult lives without success. Some may have just given up hope that there may be a way out of depression. That’s why Lakeside TMS is dedicated to giving these patients another option. Call or email us today for a free TMS consultation

What is a Session Like?

During the 20 minute treatment with Brainsway Deep TMS, a cushioned helmet generates brief magnetic fields that stimulate the targeted brain area and improve depressive symptoms. The patient feels a slight tapping sensation while remaining awake and alert during treatment.

Will it Help?

In real-life community treatment settings, 20 sessions of Deep TMS produce remission rates even higher than those observed in clinical trials. Among patients who went on to complete a treatment course of 30 sessions, 75% had a response to treatment and 1 in 2 achieved full remission.

Will My Insurance Cover It?

Very possibly! Most insurance plans include benefits for TMS. Benefits are plan-specific but will charge a copay for treatments similar to a doctor’s appointment. Lakeside TMS will work with your insurance to determine what the costs will be prior to starting treatment. We will advocate for your coverage.
